The Scouting Troop was formed by the Vicar, Philip Gardiner, the Church Warden and keen
Scouter Doug Redman, and members of Holy Trinity Church in 1962, and has gone from strength to
strength during the ensuing years. We have enjoyed a partnership that has given many of our
young people a good start in life in both practical and spiritual ways. Since coming to Larkfield in
1994 I have encouraged the Scouting and Guiding movements to participate in Church attendance
and we have all enjoyed our Church Parades on the first Sunday of every month during term time. I
have been extremely pleased to see how the Scouting organisations have been very particular in
making our Remembrance Day Service a memorable time. A time when the issues of the past and
present come to the forefront of minds, for both young and old alike.

The support and help I have received from the leaders of the organisation has been tremendous,
and I look forward to many years ahead when our links will develop in ways that will always be
for the benefit of the young people of Larkfield. I believe that in these days when our young
people have so many interests to take up their time Scouting and Guiding alone offer a unique
opportunity to guide our young people through to a balanced maturity. Many of us can look back
on our formative years and be grateful for all that Scouting has done in both an individual and
collective experience.
